There are 2 types of bladder cells: one with laser holes and the other without - both are necessary for the alternating pressure mattress. The bladder cells with the laser holes make up the middle 9 cells of the alternating pressure mattress, and they allow a little air to be released over time to alternate the pressure of the mattress.
